Go Kart Frame Building

Go karting will never be complete without the parts used to assemble the main vehicle for the sport – the go kart frame.

The go kart frame can be made of either metal tubing or angle iron. From simple materials at home an improvised karting frame can be accomplished.

For instance, a simplified version of the go kart frame can be made using angle iron, tube notcher, welder, filler material, harbor freight pipe bender and chalk.

By simply sitting down and taking the measurements appropriate for the build of the person to use the kart and cutting the tubing to fill in the structure, Willard’s Structure and other karting parts sources have been known to device different versions of the frame.

Each company is able to come up with frames and other go kart parts to assemble. Contacting the company that will create the frame to update them about the dimensions of the vehicle will ensure that it will fit your build.

You cannot drive around in the vehicle if you are feeling uncomfortable or if your muscles are beginning to cramp. It is supposed to be enjoyed, so whether you are going to buy the frame or not, you have to make sure that it is enough to support the passenger.

Rough terrain can sometimes be faced by the driver, and if the go kart frame itself is not able to withstand it, then there is no chance for it to make it through without bending, cracking or even breaking.

To avoid endangering the life of the driver, make sure that any part of the karting frame that was created with angle iron and round tubing are solidly held in place by the appropriate means.

Of course no go kart would be complete without the all important go kart steering.

You would never be able to maneuver the kart without some sort of steering mechanism.

A good go kart steering system allows the driver to easy navigate a variety of terrain, while giving the driver full control over the direction, speed and swiftness of every movement and turn.

The steering wheel, which is commonly 10 inches in diameter, may come in polished aluminum butterfly designs offered by Willard’s, whereas others may have the traditional circular design.

A complete set of steering wheel mounting kit is needed to keep the steering wheel intact and steady. In case there is a discrepancy when it comes to the response of the wheel, calibration of the movements will be made easier with the steering cap assembly.

To complete the go kart steering parts, the hand brakes and foot pedals need to be installed. These can come in matching styles, but there are also solid black designs for the bachelor driver.

The pedal and throttle needs to cooperate with the spindle rod, male and female rod as well as the steering shafts so that the entire system will work.

Tubular tire rods and accessories are also available as additional support to the axle and the wheel. A set of spindle and bracket will make renovating the steering wheel easier.

It’s not uncommon to see kart owners pimp up the steering mechanism, particularly the go kart steering wheel, since it is a very visible part of the go kart. Steering wheel covers not only provide added grip, they can also be very stylish.

When building a go kart, one may be overwhelmed by the large selection of go kart parts, components and accessories that can be mixed and matched with each other for a unique creation.

However, not all pairings will lead to a safe or working vehicle; some components simply cannot work with others you have put in. to make sure that you have a vehicle that will work without risking your life, know what the basics are and begin experimenting little by little from there.

For every addition or removal to the basic canvass of materials, with replacements along the way, you are creating something that can either make the kart go faster or slower.

Different sites offer tips on which go kart rims should be used for a certain combination so that it will work without having to worry about the other parts breaking.

There are different go kart rims to choose from to make the assembly of a working kart easier. Aluminum alloy rims for live axle and non drive as well as non-drive rims are available as a special line of rims for modest adventure purposes.

Go kart part suppliers generally have these products available in 5”-6” and 8” sizes. An 8” Steel Wheel with compatible hubs can also be placed on the kart for a better finish.

Kartco rims are best paired with hubs, the brake drums and the sprockets. It has 5/16” bolt holes connected to a 2-13/16” bolt hole circle. Meanwhile, the 4, 5 and 6” rims are compatible with the drive hub, brake drums and sprockets with 3/8” bolt holes and an accompanying 2-7/8” bolt hole circle.

When buying go kart rims, make sure you get the right rims for your go karting terrain and go kart frame.

The regular axle is one inch, rounded and threaded on each end. The axle that is 1” by 36” standard measures 32 inches from shoulder to shoulder and costs as little as $45. Increments of two inch variations are also available until the 40-inch benchmark for the axel.

The size of the axle depends on the width of the kart, which in turn depends on the torso of the person going to ride it. Before you begin looking for the axle that will look good on the kart, make sure that it is available in the appropriate size to avoid damages on both kart and body. It is always better to look for the size that is not to snug and not too tight. It has to be able to give enough allowances for body movement without feeling too loose.

As a rule in composing a karting ensemble, make sure that all materials complement each other and avoid going for those that are too heavy for the bearings to handle. Any kart made of all heavy materials will not be able to move as fast as those created with aluminum alloy contemporaries. That and a crafty engineering will give you a kart that will live up to your expectations.

We have a wide assortment of go kart axle parts.

One of the most important, but certainly not very glamorous part of the go kart is the go kart clutch, enabling the driver to work to race their way to the finish line with lightning speed.

This is made possible because of the proper ration between the clutch, kart engine and transmission that allows the driver to maintain speed while shifting at the proper times. A poorly operating clutch can severely hamper the ability to shift gears and can greatly affect the speed of the kart.

It has to be regularly maintained to know whether it responds properly. Speed is dependent on the clutch and how responsive it is.

The go kart clutch has different tooth sizes. Its pairing with the sprocket needs to be considered when looking for a clutch.

For instance, a 10 to twelve-tooth paired with a 60 sprocket is the best. Most racing competitors use this kind of combination to win.

Specialty stores and hardware stores both serve different kinds of clutches for all kinds of intentions. It can also be bought online.

Proper caring of the clutch is essential to get the best performance out of the clutch and extend its life.

Some clutch maintenance pointers include, not oiling the inside of the clutch to avoid it from slipping against the drum. If this happens, the clutch will heat up and can be ruined.

One way of avoiding a heated clutch is by preventing stop-and-go motions. Driving too slow can also bake the clutch and make it less vulnerable to damage.

Cleaning the clutch after every race is also suggested by experts to keep it at good condition. The outside of the clutch can be cleaned thoroughly using any trusted lubricant and cloth.

Make sure that while you enjoy the sport of karting, you also enjoy the maintenance and cleanup that follows the go-karting, so that you are prepared to take on the next race.

Don’t forget how important a well maintained, proper sized go kart clutch will help you get the most out of your go karting.

Choosing the right go kart tire for your kart, and the type of terrain you will be navigating, is key to a good go karting. To get the most out of your kart, it’s also important to have the proper type and size of tire for your go kart chassis and go kart engine.

Of course the purpose of the go kart tire is to provide traction and stability to the go cart. It’s important for go cart tires to maintain their shape, and to be able to handle sharp turns creating as much as 2 G’s of force.

The tires must also be able to handle very high temperatures as the tires heat up with prolonged driving.

One type of go cart tires are “slicks”. Go kart slicks are designed for dry tracks. These tires are the softest of kart tires, designed to improve traction on hard, dry surfaces for kart racers. There are also hard slicks that are used on amusement park karts.

You will recognize some manufacturers of slick kart tires, like Bridgestone, and Dunlop. Others not so recognizable are Maxxis, and specific kart tire manufacturers MG, Vega, MOJO, and Carlisle.

Tires for karts used during wet weather are often referred to as “wets”. Theses tires are narrower that slicks and are grooved, just like car tires to channel water away from the tread for better traction.

Some popular manufacturers of kart rain tires are Bridgestone and Continental.

Off road go kart tires are another choice in karting tires. Theses tires contain much more tread than the others, much like you would see on any off-road vehicle. Their purpose is to provide traction on uneven terrain that may include dry, wet, smooth and wet surfaces.

An experienced go-karter would agree that the key to effortless and safe driving is the combination of only the best pieces of go karting tools and mechanisms. If any one of them fails, the driver is endangered and the chance of bagging the reputation of being a premier racer will not be possible. To lessen the risk, one can start by buying good tires to complete the go kart.

Okay, so go kart wheels are not the most important part of the go kart, but they sure can make your kart look great! Just make sure you choose the correct go kart rim width for your go kart chassis.

Obviously, kart wheels are much small than your normal automobile wheels, with common sizes being 4”, 5”, 6”, 6” and 10”. Go kart rims are generally made of aluminum, or a magnesium allow, so they are strong and yet lightweight.

One of the best go kart wheels suppliers is Douglas, with their highly acclaimed works that have been famous throughout the years in different karting events. Douglas Wheels Technology is known as an authentic supplier of motorsport parts and karting wheels since they began their business in 1991.

The founder itself is a racer; hence he knows what a racer needs and wants in order to function properly. There are details that a non-racer would think unimportant whereas Douglas and his co-racers think them vital.

It was from his friends’ and his needs that Douglas was founded. By providing themselves with customized parts assembled using a theoretical framework and testing it for themselves, they know firsthand whether any improvement needs to be made.

Two of the best-sellers of Douglas are the Douglas Aluminum AlumLite SSA and the Magnesium Go Kart Wheels M Series V. The former is economical with its $35 price whereas the latter is more expensive. Both parts are guaranteed to work with efficiency. The use of aluminum in go kart wheels and other car parts is economical and convenient considering its capacity to withstand heat while being lightweight.

With the development of contemporary parts like these, the users are not burdened by heavy metal and are instead protected by wheels that enable them to drive at lightning speed. Even at the event of collision the driver is protected by the insulated rubber paired with the metal support of the wheels to avoid it from overheating. A new line of wheels are even developed to withstand outdoor and indoor courses.

Add a little awesomeness to your go kart by adding some really great looking wheels.

Widely known by go kart enthusiasts is the importance of the go kart chassis.

The underlying go kart chassis provides the all important balance and stability for safety, along with traction control.
The chassis is most responsible for allowing the driver to have full control over the vehicle they are driving. It’s also important for the kart to have the appropriate chassis, paired with the right suspension and motor.

Old models of vehicles go karts have shorter chassis, attached to suspension systems that act whenever the kart is moving. The chassis and suspensions were designed to lessen the trauma that a novice driver could have while hitting the brakes.

Newer designs involve longer bars that allow the go kart to be more flexible, and to flow better with the terrain. With this structure you are able to handle the vehicle with less effort and less wear and tear on your body. These longer bodies are also more comfortable to taller men who are no longer cramped into a short frame. The vast majority of chassis used in carting today are rolling go kart chassis.

The wrong go kart chassis design will not only result in a bad go karting experience but it can also be vary dangerous. The chassis must be designed with the proper balance, wheel base width and traction to be able to navigate sharp turns with out rolling too easily. And, the top of the chassis must be able to bear enough weight to not crumple on a roll over.

The proper chassis should be strong enough to be able to handle rough terrain and strong enough to be safe on a roll over, but not so heavy that the go kart engine has to work too hard.

Because the go kart chassis is so important to the kart and to your safety, I would recommend that you do not try to build your own chassis, but instead buy a ready made chassis that is specifically designed for karting. The reward will be a satisfying go kart experience along with ensuring your safety while go carting.

Some popular chassis are the Gillard kart chassis, the CRD kart chassis, Biesse kart chassis, PRC chassis, Margay chassis, Arrow chassis, Merlin chassis, Intrepid kart chassis, Bandit kart chassis, Coyote chassis, Anderson kart chassis, and the LTO kart chassis.

All About Go Kart Engines

There is probably no go kart part that is more important that the go kart engine, or the go kart motor.

There are two types of go kart engines – the go kart combustion engine and the go kart electric motor.

Go karts used in amusement parks may be powered by either a gas powered combustion go kart engine, or and electric go kart motor. Of course indoor go karts are powered by electric motors.

Gas powered go karts used in amusement parks use 4-stoke go kart engines, while high performance racing go karts may use either a 4-stroke or 2-stroke go kart engine.

The advantage of electric go-kart motors is they require little maintenance, have not exhaust and can be used indoors. The drawback to electric go karts is that they need to be recharged about every 20 minutes of run time, and are often recharged after each run for maximum performance. This recharge time also requires a higher investment for the go kart track owner since they need enough go karts to satisfy customer demand while other karts are charging.

Gas powered go kart engines have the advantage of not having to be taken out of service for a recharge and only need to be gassed up periodically, plus refueling a small go kart engine takes very little time.

Go kart gas engines are generally 4-stroke standard air cooled engines, often similar to those you will find on your gas powered lawn more. These small engines range from 5 to around 20 hp. (Horse Power) and I am sure you’ll recognize some of the 4-stroke go kart engine manufacturers – Honda, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh and Robin. These go kart engines are great for personal fun karting and beginning go kart racing.

There are manufacturers who build 4-stroke engines specifically for go karting. Some of those manufacturers include Yamaha, Biland, TKM and Aixro / Wankel. These engines generally from 15 to 48 hp. and run at a very high RPM. These 4-stroke go kart engines often compete with 2-stroke go kart engines.

Racing go kart generally use 2-stroke go kart engines that are manufactured for go karting. These high performance engines can deliver as much as 90 hp and deliver as much as 16,000 RPM. These engines can be single cylinder or dual cylinder. Most of these 2-stroke engines are now water cooled. Some of the manufacturers include Rotax, Yamaha, IAME, Comer, Vortex, Rotax, REFO and Titan.

Go Kart Part hopes we can help you find the go kart engine that will fulfill you go karting needs.
